TDN World Desk: Earlier, in the last year Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, Union Minister for Minoritiy affairs, while declaring to lift Haj subsidy, assured that the fund, instead, will be,used for providing education to Minorities.
But, on the contrary the education fund allocation for the purpose of minoritiy empowerment has been reduced to Rs 2,362 crore from Rs 2,451 crore last year. The grants for pre-matric and post-matric scholarships has been reduced from Rs 1,296 crore last year to Rs 1,220 crore this year, and from Rs 500 crore to Rs 496 crore this year, as well.
It is part of the Modi government’s efforts to empower minorities with dignity and without appeasement,” Naqvi said.
Last year, when Modi govt declared to abolish Haj subsidy, Naqvi said, ” It is part of the Modi government’s effort to empower minorities with dignity and without appeasement.”
But, after budget announcement of Modi government 2.0 government sincerity over minoritiy empowerment in education sector is under scrutiny. If the government is really willing to uplift the backward and underprivileged students then why the allowance for pre-matric and post-matric scholarship is reduced ?
AIMIM Supremo, Asaduddin Owaisi criticized the Modi government’s Union Budget 2019 for not delivering on its promise to provide scholarship to one crore Muslim students.
Addressing a gathering in Hydrabad Owaisi said , “Naqvi had promised to give scholarship to one crore Muslims students every year. Why was the scholarship not provided in the Union Budget?
However, this year budget saw a substantial increase for providing free and subsidised coaching for minority candidates. The amount has been increased from Rs 8 crore last year to Rs 20 crore this year under the ‘Support for students clearing prelims conducted by UPSC, SSC, State Public Service Commissions etc’ scheme.
