TDN World Desk: Morgan Freeman, an oscar winning holly wood star, emerged to be accused of sexual harassment of multiple women.
The accusation was surfaced as 16 different people shared their stories to the CNN . Several of them said that Freeman would make uncomfortable comments about their figure and choice of clothing. 8 amongst them said that they are victims of sexual harassment or inappropriate behaviour. Two women said that they were subjected to unwanted touching by Freeman.
A woman who was production assistant of the film “Going in Style” in 2015, alleged that he was even attempted to lift her skirt asking if she was wearing underwear. She said that the incident took place in front of the co-star in the movie, Alan Arkin who allegedly told him to stop.
One of the three, CNN entertainment reporter Chloe Melas says she was subjected to inappropriate behavior by Freeman more than a year ago, when she interviewed him at a press junket for “Going in Style.” According to Melas, who was six months pregnant at the time, Freeman, in a room full of people, including his co-stars Arkin and Caine, shook Melas’ hand, not letting go while repeatedly looking her up and down and saying more than once a variation of, “I wish I was there.” She says he also said to her, “You are ripe.” Cameras were on and recording during one of Freeman’s remarks to Melas — “Boy, do I wish I was there” — but not for the rest. As is common practice with such junkets, Melas was the only CNN employee there at the time.
However, after CNN published the news story , Morgan Freeman issued an statement seeking apologies. The statement reads, “Anyone who knows me or has worked with me knows I am not someone who intentionally offend or knowingly anyone feel uneasy. I apologize to anyone who felt uncomfortable or disrespected- that was never my intent.”
The Screen Actors Guild is pondering over the issue and yet to determine whether action will be necessary regarding its recent lifetime achievement award recipient Morgan Freeman, who on Thursday was accused of engaging in a pattern of alleged inappropriate behavior and harassment in a CNN investigation. Sagarika Ghose, a prominent Indian journalist and author, tweeted over the incident . As the tweet goes , ” when those who play great men on screen turns out to be not-so-great off screen.”
