Recent Mob lynching of a Jharkhand Muslim youth Tabrez Ansari sparked widespread protest across the country, caught global attention.

PM Narendra Modi condemned the lynching of Tabrez. He said in Rajya Sabha that his death “pained” him. But, a mere verbal condemnation from the Prime Minister of the country seems not enough to curb the violence meted out to the minority Muslims. After Tabrez similar incident of thrashing Muslims and forcing them chant “Jai Shri Ram” are coming up one after another from different corner of the country.

On Friday afternoon, a 16-year-old Muslim boy, Mohammed Taj was allegedly kicked and punched by four unidentified men in a crowded Kanpur city market for wearing skullcap and refusing to chant “Jai Shri Ram”.

According to NDTV the boy, Taj was returning home after offering prayer on Friday while three or four motorbike borne men stopped him and asked he overtook them and objected him wearing skullcap.

The incident took place just few hundreds yard distant from the victim’s house in Barra.

“They removed my cap, pinned me down and beat me black and blue while asking me to chant ”Jai Shri Ram”,” Mohammad Taj told PTI.

Circle officer Manoj Gupta said the police were trying to identify the attackers from CCTV footage and had got “some leads”.

Barra station police officer Satish Kumar Singh told media that an FIR has been registered under the Indian Penal Code, including Section 153A (causing enmity between people of different religions).

Victim’s medical check-up has been carried out and they are putting effort to identify the accused, the officer further said.
