TDN World Desk: On the first day of winter sesssion in Parliament Congress leader Adhir Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury aunched a scathing attack on the government for not allowing members of Parliament from visiting Jammu and Kashmir while allowing members of the European Union Parliament to visit Srinagar.

Mr. Chowdhary also raised the issue of the incarceration of Jammu and Kashmir’s former chief minister Dr. Farooq Abdullah. During Zero Hour, he said it was an “atrocity” not to allow former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Farooq Abdullah to attend Lok Sabha proceedings.

“Our leader Rahul Gandhi was not allowed to visit (Jammu and Kashmir), several MPs were sent back … is it not an insult that we can’t go there … migrant labourers were killed, Army men are dying,” he said.

Mr. Chowdhury also put forward the issue of withdrawal of SPG (Special Protection Group) cover former prime minister Manmohan Singh and the Gandhi family and demanded that the SPG service need to be reinstated. He also reminded the BJP government how the former prime minister, the late Atal Bihari Vajpayee remained under SPG protection during UPA rule.

Mr. Chowdhury accused the Home Minister of lying on the whereabouts of Dr. Abdullah. In the previous parliamentary session, Amit Shah, the Union Home Minister, had informed the House that Dr. Abdullah was not under detention.

Besides Congress, National Conference also raised the issue of detention of Farooq Abdullah.

The issue was also raised by RSP leader N K Premachandran when he was given a chance to ask a supplementary question related to the Finance Ministry. “Farooq Abdullah is not in the House. The House is not in order. I am not in a position to ask any question,” Mr. Premachandran said.
