TDN World Desk: On Thursday, Finance Ministe Nirmala Sitharaman, through a press conference, announced a package of Rs 1.7 lakh crore for the poor underprivileged people of the country to support then in their fight against the pandemic during the lockdown.

Rs 50 lakh per person insurance cover has aso been announced by the finance ministrty for doctors, paramedic, healthcare workers dealing with coronavirus outbreak.

Earlier on Tuesday, Sitharaman had extended timelines to provide relaxation for filing income tax (I-T) returns and raised default thresholds for invoking bankruptcy proceedings.

Currently the country is observing a 21-day complete lockdown to contain coronavirus. The total number of novel coronavirus or COVID-19 cases in India stands at 650 with at least 13 dead , including the latest deaths reported in Gujarat and in Jammu and Kashmir.
