TDN World Desk: Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his clothes remark. Tuesday Banerjee took out a rally protesting the Citizenship Act. The march was set out from 8-B Bus stand and ended in Jadavpur market in Bhawaipur.

The TMC chief said, “the price of onion rised to 200 rupees, potato and onion is burning, the country is burning. Can you recognise me by my attire? What is it? Is it bad clothe?( She pointed her attire to the people sitting on the stage). Can protesters be identified by their clothes?”

Never thought protestors can be identified by their clothes! Food habits, clothes are varied among people, she further added.

Taking jibe at the BJP government, Mamata said, ” one day they will say don’t wear hote slippers, giving you saffron colour slippers, wear it.”

She asserted that all the Bengal is observing the protest rallies. Speaking over the arson on trains in Bengal, Mamata said, ” Two small incidents happened. And they put off all the train services for three days. Rail department is under the Central government and administered by GRP. Security onus falls upon them. Yet, the Bengal government has arrested 600 -700 persons over the allegation of creating violence.”

During her public address from the rally, the TMC supremo said to her party cadres, ” As Rabindranath Tagore tied rakhi during the partition of Bengal, you also tie rakhis.”

The 64 year leader also asked people no to make any violence during protests. She also criticised government for brutal crackdown on Jamia students.

Banerjee said 13 lakhs people have been excluded in Assam. 100 people commited suicide. In Bengal, 30 people commited suicide. Who will be taking responsibility for these deaths.

Opposing BJP’s NRC policy Mamata Banerjee said, in the name of giving citizenship to 10,000 people, a plan is hatched to displace 9,90,000 people from their homes.

The TMC leader said, ” In their language we are not citizens of this country. Those who will come from outside, live for five years, they will be granted citizenship. Then we will go where?

Mamata also questioned how ‘savka saath sabka vikash’ will happen if any of the citizens is denied citizenship.
