TDN World Desk: Outside JNU University situation is tensed. Students stage protest outside the campus. Police used water cannon to disperse the students and dilute the intensity of the protests.
However, students are still on the fray. Extra police force have been deployed to mitigate the situation.
As per ground reports, this protest is due to fee Hike and few other restrictions put on the JNU students.
Hundreds of students has come out of the campus and blocked road and raises slogans.
One protester told NDTV, ” While we were paying Rs 2,500 a month earlier, we will now have to pay Rs 7,000 per month. We are compelled to protest because our issues have not been addressed.”
The protester also added that there was nearly a 300 per cent hike. The protesting students also said they are unhappy with the recent “curfew timings and dress code restrictions” at the varsity in the recent hostel manual.
Demanding to withdraw the draft hostel manual for its ‘anti-student’ policy, the students headed marching towards the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), where Vice President Venkaiah Naidu was addressing the university’s convocation at an auditorium.
