TDN World Desk: As the Supreme Court is going to hold a hearing on CAA Wednesday, the Northeast Students’ Organization has declared a total shutdown of all univesities and colleges in the region.
The Univesrities in the Northeast that are likely to support the shutdown, include Gauhati University, Dibrugarh University, North Eastern Hill University (NEHU), Tezpur University, Assam Women’s University (AWU), Assam Agricultural University (AAU), Nagaland University, Rajiv Gandhi University, and NERIST.
The All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) is one of the main anti-CAA petitioners. Among the other petitioner who challenged the validity of the law in the apex court include the Indian Union Muslim League, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh, RJD leader Manoj Jha, Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra and AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi.
The date of the hearing of the petition challenging the legal validity of the contentious CAA is scheduled on Wednesday, Januray 22.
