TDN World Desk: A 23-year-old girl from Uttar Pradesh’s Unnao district , who had been raped in March, was set on fire on Thursday morning while she was heading to the local court for hearing in the rape case.

Following the incident political leaders have voiced over the issue criticizing Yogi government role in maintaining law and order in the state.

Taking to twitter, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said the BJP “should stop spreading false propaganda”. “Yesterday, the home minister of the country and the Uttar Pradesh chief minister clearly lied that law and order in Uttar Pradesh has improved. Seeing such incidents everyday angers the mind. BJP leaders should stop spreading false propaganda,” Ms Gandhi wrote in Hindi.

Expressing concern and praying for the early recevorey of the Unnao Rape victim who has survived 90 percent burn injuries, UP party chief Priyanka further said that the chief minister (Yogi Adityanath) and BJP govt. in UP should take the responsibility for law and order failure.

“The condition of the girl who was set on fire and bought here at 10 am is very serious. She has 90 per cent burn injuries and we are taking utmost care. A team of doctors are observing her,” Dr Ashutosh Dubey, medical superintendent of the Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Hospital, told PTI.

Rajya Sabha MP and Samajwadi Party leader Ram Gopal Yadav said: “President’s rule should be imposed in UP where Jungle Raj is prevalent. There is no law and order in the state.”
