TDN World Desk: The Jharkhand mob lynching of 24-year old Tabrez Hasan sparked widespread criticism across India and drew international attention.
May be late, however days later on Wednesday Prime Minister Narendra Modi condemned the Jaharkand lynching. At the same time he maintained that it is unfair to call Jharkhand a hub of lynching.
“The lynching in Jharkhand has pained me. It has saddened others too. But, some people in the Rajya Sabha are calling Jharkhand a hub of lynching. Is this fair? Why are they insulting a State? None of us have the right to insult the State of Jharkhand.”
Hydrabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi questioned PM Modi’s sincerity about him condemning Jharkhand lynching.
Owaisi Twitted, ” First you rarely speak about the frequent lynchings that Muslims are subject to.
When you do, it is always followed by a “but”. “I condemn lynchings, but sentiments must be respected”, “but why should you insult Jharkhand?”. “
Prominent Journalist Rana Ayyub took to Twitter, “He said the exact same lines about Gujarat, post the riots. The bigger concern always is the image of the state.”
A number of Twitter users are also questioning Modi’s sincerity over his remark.
