TDN World Desk: After Tabrez Ansari in Jaharkand, this time a similar incident came into light in Maharashtra’s Thane. A cab driver was allegedly assaulted in the early hours of Sunday by a group of three men and was also forced to chant ‘Jai Shri Ram’.

Police have arrested Mangesh Munde, 30, Anil Surywanshi, 22, and Jaydeep Munde, 26, who are residents of Diva.

According to Indian Express, victim Faizal Usman Khan had gone to pick up passengers from Manav Kalyan Hospital in Thane at around 3 am on Monday. On his way to Mumbai, suddenly his car broke down, at this point while Khan was trying to restart his car switching on backlight, three men came on a scooter from behind. They banged on the windows, dragged him out of the vehicle and started thrashing him.

Speaking to Mumbai Mirror, Khan said, “I told them Allah ke vaste, mujhe maat maaro, mujhe chhod do (For Allah’s sake, do not hit me, let me go). They then forced me to chant Jai Shri Ram. They kept hitting me till I lost my consciousness. Later I found myself in the car, with my mobile phone stolen.”

Thane police commissioner Vivek Phansalkar told Indian Express, “Based on the content of the complaint, we have registered an offence and have also included the section for insulting and hurting religious beliefs. The three accused have been arrested by the police and are in our custody
Further investigation is going on.”
