TDN World Desk: Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina breaks silence on Khaleda Zia’s arrest. On Satuday, Adressing the triennial council of Dhaka North and South City units Bangladesh Awami League (AL) at Suhrawardy Udyan, Prime minister Sheikh Hasina said, “We didn’t file any case against her with any political motive.”

As the chief guest, Sheikh Hasina was attended the inauguration ceremony of the council. The Awami League President, flagged off the council by hoisting the national flag as well as releasing pigeons, and balloons.

While delivering her speech hasina referred to her prime-opponent Bangladesh Nationalist party chief Khaleda Jia’s imprisonment, she said that many people are trying to give political colour to the conviction.

“It’s not a political case…it’s completely a corruption case. But many want to give a political colour to it. We didn’t file any case against her with any political motive,” she said.

Hasina also maintained that it is not her Government but the army-backed caretaker government filed the case against her for misappropriation of the orphans’ money. “She is now in jail being convicted in that case.”

Meanwhile, BNP senior leader Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain has demanded to release BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia, otherwise, he threats to wwage mass movement against the rul;ing Awami league government.

In 2018, Zia was imprisoned for a total of 17 years in relation to a embezzlement of the funds for the orphanage trusts set up when she was serving as the prime minister. Since 2018 Zia is serving in jail.
