After Donald Trump became US president, the country walked out in 2015 from its historical nuclear deal.
“Effective measures are needed to salvage JCPOA, which is an important diplomatic achievement. It can be saved only through multilateralism, the rule of law and rejection of unilateralism and hegemony,” Ma Zhaoxu said in Beijing.
Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Ma Zhaoxu Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi have agreed to honor the JCPOA, or Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action.
The Chinese foreign ministry has also called on European countries to speed up the implementation of INSTEX, a transaction tool initiated by the UK, France and Germany to bypass U.S. sanctions on Iranian companies.
On bilateral issues, he said China and Iran are “strategic partners” and Beijing is always seeking to expand ties with Tehran.
