Mike Pompeo, incumbent as US Secretary of State on Monday visits Saudi King amid rising tension with Iran

TDN World Desk: US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo didn’t discuss the killing of Jamal Kashoggi during his meet with Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud during their meeting on Monday in Jeddah, a senior State Department official said.

Saudi Prince’s involvement in the killing of Saudi born journalist Jammal Kashoggi came forefront. A report prepared by UN investigators earlier this month revealed that there was ” credible evidence” that Saudi crown prince had hands behind the murder of Kashoggi, a Saudi dissident.

Asked by the travelling Journalist whether the issue of Jamal Kashoggi has been raised, the official said, ” it didn’t come up.”

” The meeting with the King was brief”, added he.

As per report, in his tour to Saudi Arabia Mike Pompeo also talked to crown prince Mohamed bin Salman but the official are not sure whether the issue of Kashoggi was raised there or not.

Pompeo before his arrival at Middle East, said that he will build a “global coalition” against Iran.

It is to be noted that both US and Saudi Arabia has long been working in alliance in their strategic fight with Iran. After Trump became President of America bilateral relationship between the two countries has been deteriorating day by day.

During Monday meeting Saudi mentioned Pompeo as ” dear friend”.

Later on, US secretary took to Twitter and said that he had ” productive meeting” with the King.
