TDN World Desk: Since past two months people of India are worried over Citizenship Act. In a shocking turn, a rickshaw puller allegedly hanged himself on Saturday fearing his son could be sent to detention camp, reports The Telegraph.

The identity of the deceased person has been revealed as Sambhu Charan Nath,55. The man was in distraught over his son’s flawed identity proof. Out of mental trauma, this man committed suicide fearing that his son’s future will end up in detention camp.

As confirmed by family members, Sambhu Nath Charan had come to India from East-Pakistan (now Bangladesh) in the late 1960s. Now the family has been naturalised and holds documents of Indian citizenship. But his family said that Sambhu’s younger son has got faulty documents that could land him in trouble and disqualify him from Citizenship. And it was the main concern for Sambhu Charan.

The family member of Sambhu Charan Nath found him hanging against the ceiling in the cowshed on Saturday. Soon he was taken to Tehatta government hospital. There he was declared dead.

Speaking over the reason behind the suicidal incident, a family member told the Telegraph,” He was afraid that his son Prasenjit could be identified as an outsider because of errors in his Aadhaar, voter identity and ration cards, which he has not been able to rectify despite repeated efforts.”

Prasenjit Nath, the younger son of deceased Sambhu Charan, submitted a letter to Tehatta police station alleging that the Citizenship Amendment Act has forced his father to commit suicide.
