TDN World Desk: In an effort to combat the discriminatory, divisive and anti-poor CAA, NPR 402 Gram Sabhas in 15 Odisha district have passed resolution and urged the state government to stop implementation of the contentious Citizenship Act and National population register the National Population Register (NPR) exercise.
Recently Telangana and Delhi assembly have passed resolution condemning CAA,NPR, NRC. Amid Coronavirus scare women in Shaheen Bagh have announced that they will carry on their movement.
After passing the resolutions the gram sabhas also sent a memorandum to Odisha chief minister Naveen Patnaik and the district collectors of the 15 districts, The wire reported.
The gram sabhas that have passed the resolutions belong to Ganjam, Gajapati, Sundargarh, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Kandhamal, Bolangir, Bargarh, Keonjhar, Sambalpur, Kalahandi, Mayurbhanj, Jharsuguda and Jajpur districts of the state.
Campaign for Survival with Dignity (CSD),Odisha Nari Samaj other such social organisations had been working in these villages to create wareness against the NPR-CAA-NRC combine.
“A memorandum on the basis of these resolutions has been sent to the Odisha chief minister and Collectors of the concerned districts,” Narendra Mohanty, convening body member of CSD told The Hindu.
On April 1 the NPR operation is set to begin. So, to stop the NPR various organisation, social and political actvists have been working. Days back Alliance Against CAA NPR NRC urged the all the citizens to boycott NPR till the government gives assurance in written legal format that no citizens will be marked doubtful during the NPR exercise.
