TDN World Desk: Priest Gangadhjar Pathak who conducted bhoomi pujan ( foundation laying ceremony) at the disputed site of Ayodhya, where once stood the iconic 16th century Babri Masjid, said that he wanted to ask from PM Narendra Modi to impose a total-ban of cow slaughter across the country.
Speaking to Times of India reporter Shailvee Sharad priest Gangadhar Pathak expressed such desire, disregarding foodhabits of other fellow indian citizens.
Pathak was pleased with the amount of dakshina he recieved for conducting the bhoomi pujan of the Ram Temple attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Asked, if he wanted some additional/ special dakshina from the Prime minister, Pathak heaped praise on the prime Minister.
” Yes. It is very rare that one has the prime minister of India as one’s ‘yajman’. Then, he is the first PM who did not hesitate in taking up a religious duty despite heading a democracy. This has thrilled me as a Hindu and, therefore, I wanted to ask from him a special ‘dakshina’ on behalf of the people of India,” he said.
When the TOI reporter wanted to know about the specific of his desire, Pathak told him,” I wanted him to promise that he will do something important and big to stopp cow slaughter in India. I wanted to ask him to bring a law that bans cow slaughter completely in the country on the lines of law brought about by the Yogi Adityanath government.”
Priest Gangadhar Pathak said in the interview that he had to desist himself from placing his request as some trust members thought that it could dilute the importance of the occassion.
It is to be noted tht since BJP government came into power under the stewardship of PM Narendra Modi, cow-related violence has significantly increased in the country.
According to Human Rights Watch, at least 44 people ( 36 Muslims) were killed between May 2015 and december 2018. Around 280 people got injured after being attacked by the violent cow vigilants.
Indian agicultural economy, meat export industry, leather industry and farming & dairy sector have suffered havoc due to this cow vigilantism.
