TDN World Desk: Canada has saidon Saturday that they are using all tools at their disposal, including sanctions, against Myanmar leaders and companies as well as diplomatic efforts to help find a solution to Rohingya crisis.
“We fully agree that the causes and solutions to the crisis lie in Myanmar, and this is why we are using all tools at our disposal to help,” Canadian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Benoit Préfontaine.
The High Commissioner was Addressing a symposium titled “Bangladesh-Canada Relations: Prognosis for Partnership” at a Dhaka hotel organized by Cosmos Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Cosmos Group.
Md Shahidul Haque, Foreign Secretary (Senior Secretary) of Bangladesh has been present in the event as chief guest. Adressing on the occassion, he highlighted Canada’s supports over Rohingya issue and termed Bangladesh-Canada relation a trouble-free one which is growing on all fronts.
The high commissioner said Canada was one of the first countries to adress the immigrant crisis and to extend highest humanitarian assistance.
High Commissioner Préfontaine said Canada has a long history of helping and welcoming refugees and their citizens deeply care about what the Rohingya and Cox’s Bazar host communities are going through.
He also praised the role of Bangladeshi citizen and its government for giving shelter to the Rohingya refugees.
In a recent move, Gambia as an affiliate to OIC countries filed genocidal case against Myanmar in the International Criminal Court (ICC). And it may land Myanmar in troubled situation.
