TDN World Desk: A Minor skirmishes took place between BJP and Congress during the first phase of Jharkhand election. Amid the heated situation local Congress MLA was seen with revolver in hand. The incident happened on Saturday in presence of central armed force stationed outside the polling booth.
Following hue and cry over his action, Mr Tripathi speaking to the reporters outside district commissioner’s office said that he took out pistol as a means to safeguard himself from the BJP men.
“The situation went out of hand after I was attacked by the supporters of the BJP nominee who were trying to disrupt the electoral process outside the polling station. I also requested the administration and the police to provide me with security when BJP workers created a ruckus outside the polling station and stopped me,” Tripathi told reporters.
On Saturday, the first phase election in Jharkhand’s Kosiyara village in the Daltonganj Assembly constituency was carried out.
The BJP urged the Election Commission to take stringent action against Congress candidate K N Tripathi, for allegedly threatening voters with a pistol outside Daltonganj polling station during the first phase of Jharkhand Assembly elections.
“We urged the Election Commission to take immediate action against Congress candidate K N Tripathi for threatening voters near the polling station with arms,” BJP spokesperson Pratul Shahdeo was quoted by News 18.
The Election Commission (ECI)
sought a detailed report over the incident from the district administration.
According to sources, Mr Tripathi’s pistol was seized along with three cartridges. The police has initiated probe into the incident.
Palamau Divisional Commissioner Manoj Kumar Jha said that the Tripathi has a licence for the gun.
Election Commission said that the first phase of Jharkhand assembly election recorded 64.12 per cent voters turn out.
