TDN World Desk: The Delhi High Court on Tuesday granted interim protection to Dr Zafarul Islam Khan, Chairman of delhi Minorities Commission, from any coercive action, the Live Law reported.
The next date of hearing is scheduled on June 22. Till that time no cooercive action can be taken against Zafarul Islam who was booked under seditious UAPA law over a Facebook post by the Delhi Police.
During the course of hearing,the Single Bench of Justice Manoj Kumar Ohri has passed the interim protection order.
Advocate Vrinda Grover, who is fighting legal battle on behalf of Zafarul Islam, has moved the plea for anticipatory bail to exempt him from any coercive action and arrest in a ‘frivolous’, ‘motivated’ and ‘untenable’ case.
On Monady a group of activists and academicians have issued a statement condemning the targeting of Zafarul islam Khan.
In a Facebook post Zafarul Islam Khan thanked kuwait for raising voice agianst Islamophobia and speaking for the oppressed Muslims in India which led to the camour. Vilifying attempts were made by media against Khan by projecting him as an hostile personality for the well-being of the country.
Dr Zafarul Islam’s advocate has mentioned it in the petition.
” Thre’s false, inflammatory, malicious and distorted media coverage of the petitioner’s social media posts have already had the effect of inciting hatred against the petitioner, and causing him to be held in contempt in the eyes of the public.This is evident from frivoilous and malicious complaints that have been filed against the Petitioner following such media coverage,” the petition states.
