Civil societies including various students outfits came up in support of the climate actvist Disha Ravi who was arrested on the charges of her alleged link in “tool kit” editing case.
Left student outfit AISA organised demonstration in Bangalore demanding Disha Ravi’s immediate release. AISA national President N Sai Balaji was also present in the rally.
In statement in solidarity with the environmental activist the left student body demanded her immediate release.
“AISA demands that Disha Ravi be released immediately and the police must drop all fabricated charges against her,” reads the statement.
Trashing the ‘conspiracy’ theory put forth by police, AISA further said,” If there is any conspiracy, it is the only conspiracy of the RSS-BJP Govt to malign the ongoing farmers protest using the tool of police force, arrest, draconian laws, to hand over the agricultural sector to Adani-Ambani”.
Another student body SIO stood by the 21-year-old climate activist.
Condemning her arrest, SIO national President Mohammad Salman Ahmad said,” The high-handed arrest of young climate activist Disha Ravi on the ludicrous charges of sedition for editing a tool kit, essentially a publicly available document, is shameful and unacceptable.”
“The government must heed the genuine demands of our farmers instead of trying to create ‘conspiracy’ bogey and make villains out of activists”, he added further.
Delhi Police arrested Disha Ravi, a climate activist, on Sunday, February 14 citing that she is a “key conspirator in (the) document’s formulation & dissemination” of the ‘toolkit’ shared by Swedish climate change activist Greta Thunberg related to the farmers’ protests.
Earlier Delhi police lodged FIR against international climate chage activist Greta Thunberg after she publicly came up in support of the thousands of farmers protesting in the national capital of India.
