TDN World Desk: Condemning Pragya Thakur’s reference to Godse, who assassinated Mahatma Gandhi, as ‘Deshbhakt’, BJP working president JP Nadda announces the dismissal of Pragya Thakur from the defence panel.
Nadda said: “We have decided that Pragya Singh Thakur will be removed from the consultative committee of defence, and in this session, she will not be allowed to participate in the parliamentary party meetings. The party never supports such statements or ideology.”
Pragya’s inclusion in the 21 mebers’ defence panel headed by Rajnath Singh on November 23 had also drew condemnation from the opposittions as well as public criticism.
On Wednesday, during parliamentary debate Sdhvi Pragya Singh Thakur, Bhopal MP, described Godse, the killer of gandhi as ‘Deshbhakt’ and attempted to defend her position. Following Pragya’s statement Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, Leader of Indian National Congress Lok Sabha strongly objected her remark. The opositin even walked out of the paliament in protest of her remark.
This is not first time that Pragya Thakur has madse such remark. Earlier during 2019 Lok Sabha election campaign she made similar statement praising Godse as ‘Deshbhakt’. In reaction to her remark, PM Narendra Modi said that he would never be able to forgive her. .

Thakur, a first-time MP from Bhopal, is an accused in the 2008 Malegaon blasts case, and is currently out on bail. She is facing trial for multiple charges under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.
