TDN World Desk: To fight the venomous hate-mongering, Muslims in Gujrat has resorted to legal battle, as many as 421 FIRs have been filed across the state against social media handles and TV channels, print media for defaming the community and spreading hatred.

Muslim lawyer Shamshad Pathan of ‘Alpsankhyak Adhikar Manch’ has been working hard to persuade the Muslim community to counter hate by bringing the culprits to book through proper legal process. As a result, The Muslim community is now learning how to approaches police stattion and file FIRs against the perpetrators.

As a counter move to curb hatred Muslims have already filed over 400 police complaints. FIRs have been lodged in Anand district, Porbandar, Idar, Patan, Surat, Vadodara and Rajkot and other places across the state.

“Till Saturday evening police had registered 421 FIRs for hate mongering and spreading rumours about COVID-19 against more than 700 people. More than 80 per cent of them are related to hate campaign in mainstream and social media,” Pathan was quoted by Ntional Herald.

Shamsad also imparted online lessons via facebook live. He explained people how to file e-complaint on state police website, in case the local police refuse to co-operate with them in lodging FIR.

But why all these FIRs?

Speaking to NH, Nazir Patel of the Ahmedabad Task Force, which has members from all the communities, said,”“There is a lot of anger against media trial of the Tablighis and the community at large. You cannot be a justice delivering body when there are courts in the country. Some of my very close non-Muslim friends posted hate content on social media, holding the community responsible for the spread of Corona virus and there were appeals against employing Muslims.”

Nazir, himself, has filed 13 police complaints til now. The move has yielded some positive results.The hatemongers has begun deleting provocative posts and even deleting socila media accounts.
