TDN World Desk: In a harrowing revelation,a New Delhi-based IT firm, BellTroX InfoTech Services, was accused of operating as a global hackers-for-hire service or hacking-as-a-service platform that allegedly targeted thousands of high-profile individuals and hundreds of organizations across six continents in the last seven years.

Reportedly, the Indian based IT firm BellTroX targeted government officials in Europe and well-known investors in the US.

Dubbed as ‘Dark Basin’ by Citizen Lab, a laboratory based at the Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy of the University of Toronto, the organisation rendered its hacking services to help clients spy on more than 10,000 email accounts over a period of seven years.

According to the report published by the University of Toronto’s Citizen Lab BellTroX, as hacking group, has allegedly targeted targeted advocacy groups, senior politicians, government officials, CEOs, journalists, and human rights defenders.

“Over the course of our multi-year investigation, we found that Dark Basin likely conducted commercial espionage on behalf of their clients against opponents involved in high profile public events, criminal cases, financial transactions, news stories, and advocacy,” the report reads, as quoted by The Hacker News.
