TDN World Desk: Prominent Historian Ramachandra Guha said on Wednesday that the Indian Republic is in peril suggesting that the religious minority Muslims are not well treated here and the government has failed to win “the goodwill of the minorities”.

Taking to Twitter Mr Ramachandra Guha wrote, “Jawaharlal Nehru to Chief Ministers, 1954: “It is always the duty and obligation of the majority to win the goodwill of the minorities by fair and even generous treatment”. This precious maxim is now violated everyday, all over India, which is why the Republic is in peril.”

Since Narendra Modi led government voted to power in 2019 for the second time, its treatment with the minority Muslims has been on question. Recently, the COVID-19 pandemic has been given religious color and smear campaign against the minority community is prevalent in the socity.
