TDN World Desk: The UP government is likely to proclaim legislation against religious conversion soon.
According to sources, Observing a large number of religious conversion in the name of ‘love jihad’ in the state, Up government deems to promulgate an ordinance.
The recent inclination behind the move is a series of cases of ‘love-jihad’, IANS new report said.”11 such cases are being probed in Kanpur district alone. RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat had also raised the issue of religious conversion during his two-day visit to Lucknow.
At present, eight states have anti-conversion laws – Arunachal Pradesh, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, and Uttarakhand. Odisha was the first state to legislate this law in 1967, followed by Madhya Pradesh, in 1968.
“The law in Uttar Pradesh would be quite similar in nature which would make religious conversions a complex and cumbersome procedure,” said an official in the law department.
Since long RSS and other Sangh-Parivar affiliated organizations have been propagating propaganda on issues like ‘love jihad’,’gau raksha’ and ‘vegetarianism’. In November 2017, Rajasthan education department asked school students to attend a village fair organized by RSS affiliate Hindu organization where folders, paphlets over alleged ‘love jihad’ were distributed among young women.
Here follows some snapshots of the ‘love jihad’ manuel distributed by hindutva fringe organization.
One of the paphlet on ‘love jihad’ distributed by Bajrang Dal in the fair reads, ““Tell your daughters that Muslims are dirty, terrorist, exploiters of women, traitors, pro-Pakistan and lumpen….”
