TDN World Desk: The fate of N Biren Singh-led BJP government in Manipur hangs in balance as three sitting BJP MLAs resigned from the party and joined the Congress and six other MLAs withdrew support.
In order to form the government a party is needed to have 31 out of 60 seats. But , after the resignation of the 3 BJP MLAs with NPP pulling out from the alliance and TMC’s T Robindro Singh&Independent MLA Shahabuddin withdrew their support to BJP, the present figure stands to be 18.
In 2017 Assembly election Congress has happened to be the single-largest party with 28 seats and BJP had won 21 out of 60 seats in Manipur. But BJP ultimately managed to form the government with the backing of the National People’s Party (NPP), Naga People’s Front (NPF) and the Lok Janshakti Party (LJP). One TMC and one independent MLA has also supported the BJP in the goverment formation.
