TDN World Desk: BJP’s Rajya Sabha MP and former cabinet minister Subramanian Swamy made an explosive remark on the minority Muslim community in the country. In an interview with an American documentary channel’s reporter Isobel Yeung Swamy said that Muslims are “not in an equal category” to non-Muslims.
Isobel Yeung took interview of Subramanian Swamy in his residence in Delhi for the ‘Vice’, an American-based canadian media.
The ‘Vice’ correspondent was asking him over the amended Citizenship Act and its fundamentally discriminatory nature towards the muslims living in the country.
In reply, Swami told Yeung “On this issue, the country is with us.Most people like our hardline approach to solving pending problems.”
To back his stand Swami went on saying that “where the Muslim population is large, there is always trouble. Because the Islamic ideology says so.”
To refute his claim when Yeung denoted that with 200 million Muslim residents, India has the second-largest Islamic population in the world, Swami reiterated his earlier remark saying, “If Muslims become more than 30 percent that country is in danger.”
Again as Yeung cited Article 14 of India’s constitution that clearly stipulates -” the State shall not deny to any person equality before the law or the equal protection of the laws within the territory of India” – he told her she was misinterpreting it and, in fact, Muslims are “not in an equal category” to non-Muslims.
Taking jibe to Swami’s remark student leader Syed Azharuddin said,” Irony is his daughter Suhasini married to a Muslim.”
