TDN World Desk: Protests hoit the streets in the Northeast states aginst the Citizenship Amendment Bill 2019 that was passed on Monday in Lok sabha with 311- 80 votes. A 11-hour long bandh has begun from today mornong.
The North East Students’ Organisation (NESO), backed by other organizations and parties will observe the shutdown till 4 pm. Additional armed personnels have been deployed in the region to alliviate the agitation. Markets, shops are closed, roads are desrted in parts of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, and Manipur.
Parties and organisations such as the Congress, AIUDF, All Assam Students Union, Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti, All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union, Khasi Students Union, and the Naga Students Federation are backing the NESO to observe the bandh.
A total of 16 left-leaning organisations such as the SFI, DYFI, AIDWA, AISF, AISA and the IPTA has also called a 12-hour bandh in Assam, coinciding with the NESO-organised shutdown.
This is the second-time bandh to stage protest over the contentious bill.
