TDN World Desk: After hundred plus FIRs against Arnab Goswami for telecasting incendiary hate-filled content on Palghar sadhu lynching, and defaming Congress President Gonia Gandhi, fresh petition filed before Bombay and Karnataka High Court seeking ban on Republic TV and prosecution of its anchor and co-owner Arnab Goswami.
As repoted by Live Law, The petitioners in Bombay High Court are Bhai Jagtap, a Member of Legislative Council and Suraj Thakur, State Vice President of Maharashtra Youth Cong.
The petitioners have prayed for direction from the courts to put ban on the broadcasting of Republic TV and stop the controversial primetime show anchored by Arnab Goswami.
The Petitioner Mohammad Arif, an RTI activist, points out in his legal paper that Republic TV and various other media’s projection of COVID-19 in regards to Tablighi jaamat has created an atmosphere of fear among the entire muslim community in India of facing social boycott.
Petition filed by Suraj Singh Thakur and Bhai Jagtap note that Arnab Goswami has resorted to hate speech and attempted to promote enimity between different religious community while covering Palghar mob lynching of 2 sadhus and their driver.
This is not the first time that Arnab Goswami’s reporting and his channel’s credibility came on question. Earlier Arnab goswami, whose father Colonel Manoranjan Goswami was a prominent BJP leader in Assam, falsely accused Jamaat-e-Islami Hind chief and Vice President of ALL India Muslim personal Law board Maulana Jalaluddin Umri of being a terrorist. In 2019, a Delhi court issued order to file FIR against Republic TV and its Editor Arnab Goswami on alleged theft of confidential documents pertaining to the probe into the death of Sunanda Pushakar.
