TDN World Desk: On Friday Inadian-origin US Congresswomen Pramila Jayapal introduced a resolution asking the Indian government to lift internet communication shut down and end mass detention in Jammu and Kashmir as swift as possible.

On August 5, India abrogated article 370 that allowed autonomy to the region. And it has been four months since Jammu and Kashmir is under lock down, four former chief ministers detained.

Indian-American Democrat lawmaker Pramila Jayapal, along with Republican lawmaker Steve Watkins introduced resolution number 745 on Friday and it was referred to the House Committee on Foreign Affairs. This is a second attempt after Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib introduced resolution on November urging India government to settle the dispute through dialogue with Pakisan. She also condemned the alleged human rights violation in Jammu and Kashmir.

On Saturday, Pramila Jayapal, the democratic representative said she want strong bilateral relationship between India and US but putting restriction in Jammu and kashmir is harmful for the bilateral relationship.

“I have fought to strengthen the special U.S.-India relationship, which is why I’m deeply concerned. Detaining people w/out charge, severely limiting communications, and blocking neutral third-parties from visiting the region is harmful to our close, critical bilateral relationship,” Jaipal said on Saturday.
