New Delhi – Ahead of upcoming 2021 assembly election in Bengal Welfare Party of India’s National President, SQR Ilyas and General Secretary, Sheema Mohsin will be visiting the state to chalk out poll strategy.
According to sources, the central leaderships are scheduled to land in Kolkata airport on October 30. Then, they will be joining a party meeting in a hotel. There they will discuss over the present political situation in the state, sources said further.

Next day, on 31st October, State president election will be held in the party office in presence of active districts’ members. It is assumed that on this day planning over the upcoming assembly election will be chalked out.

On November 1, after attending a press conference at 11 am, Dr SQR Ilyas and Sheema Mohsin will meet a group of intellectuals. Later in the evening another round of discussion will be held in Kolkata between party leaders, members and prominent personalities.

It is to be noted that on various issues Welfare Party has led meeting, protest-rallies in coalition with the left fronts and Congress party. Welfare has a concrete vote-share in North 24 and South 24 parganas, Howrah, East Midnapore, Nadia, Murshidabad, Birbhum, Malda, Cooch Behar and in both of the Dinajpur districts. In rest of the districts this party has a considerable number of voters. Yet, Welfare party has always limited its election contest in a small number of seats, just to ensure that the other secular parties’ core-vote share remain intact and undivided.

But what will be their poll strategy in the coming assembly election ? An speculation is there. Apparently, it seems that the party will speak over the consolidation of anti- BJP votes, beside raising ruling TMC party’s corruption, nepotism and failure in development issue .

State and Central leadership want to fight the election over multiple issues. Party’s ultimate focus will remain over the rise of a secular coalition force. One of the party leaders said, ” In the coming assembly election we need to elect such MLAs who will act on value-based politics for the welfare of people. For the well-being of our future generations victory of a value-based political party is the need of time.”

As per sources, there is high possibility that Left, Congress and Welfare Party would come together and form an alliance.

When asked, as to, in how many seats Welfare Party will contest, SQR Ilyas, National President of Welfare Party said over a telephonic conversation,” Our cadres are busy in strengthening organization and helping out people. The electoral fight will be against communalism and opposed to any issue which goes against the interest of common people. But, the party is yet to decide on how many seats it will contest. You will come to know once the Election Commission announces the poll-schedule.”
