Own Correspondent, TDN World, Kolkata: Muslim imams, muazzins has come forward to help the needy in the flight against coronavirus.
Kolkata Nakhoda mosque’s Maulana Shafique Kashimi on Wednesday announced the imams, muazzins across the state will donate Rs 1 crore in the Chief Minister’s relief fund.
“We have to help the people as much as possible,” he said.
“The Imams are also conducting relief works in their respective areas. I have a request to all the muslims please stay at home on Shab-e-barat,” he said further.
Another Imam said, ” Most of the imam, muazzin in Bengal are not well off. Local muslims crowdfund small amount of money to pay them up monthly. Apart from that, we are being given few allowance from the Waqf Board’s coffer. But, it
in this hard times we need to come forward and stand by the people. “
West Bengal Waqf Board’s Chairman Abdul Gani told TDN, “Imam and muazzins have decided to stand by the people. Chief Minister already announced that people can donate whatever amount they are capable of. Bengal’s imamas and muazzins have responded to CM’s call.”
