Both the journalists have shared the FIR copy on Twitter.

Police filed FIR against Swarna Jha and Samiriddhi K Sakunia based on the complaint registered by hardline Hindutva organization Viswa Hindu Parishad (VHP). They have been asked to appear on 21 November.

Journalists Swarna Jha put out a video statement from her Twitter account recounting that the police personnel have beem deployed outside their hotel and they were prevented from going anywhere outside the hotel compound.

However, Tripura police contradicted her claim saying they did not deploy any police personnel outside the hotel.

Taking to Twitter, Salman demanded that Tripura police should refrain from intimidating journalists.

“Tripura Police must stop intimidating & harrassing brave journalists & activists and should arrest real culprits of Tripura violence,” said Salman.

Lending solidarity he described the incident of registering FIR as “intimidation and harassment” for reporting the truth. He appealed to senior journalists of the country and Editor Guilds of India to stand by them.

As per latest update put forth by journalist Samriddhi K Sakunia, they have been taken for detention at the Nizambazar Police station, Karimganj Assam.
