TDN World Desk: The United Nations chief António Guterres on the occasion of AIDS World Day, on Dec. 1, expressed concern over the alarming increase of the epidemic disease, HIV.
Day before AIDS World Day, António Guterres twitted about the dwindling resource to fight HIV. Taking to twitter he wrote, “ A record 38 million people live with HIV- but resources for the response declined by $ 1 billion last year. On WORldAIDSDay let’s reaffirm our commitment to ending this epidemic by 2030 – scaling up access to health services, fighting stigma and ensuring people enjoy their rights.
On November 26, UN International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) stated that some 320 children and adolescents died every day from AIDS-related causes in 2018, or 13 every hour, according to a global snapshot on children, HIV and AIDS.
“The world is on the cusp of making great gains in the battle against HIV and AIDS, but we must not rest on the laurels of progress made,” said UNICEF Executive Director Henrietta Fore.
