TDN World Desk: During Ramadan Muslims fast from dusk to dawn. It’s obligatory part of their faith to fast for continuous one month. But, there are lots of people who couldn’t buy food. For them it would be very hard to get food. To help these needy New York City corporation announced that it would be providing Halal meals during the Muslim holiday of Ramadan to as many as 2 million residents unable to pay for food.

About 400,000 Halal meals will be distributed at 32 Department of Education buildings and another 100,000 will be served through community organizations during the month, the Bloomberg reported.

“One of Ramadan’s most noble callings is to feed the hungry,” Mayor Bill de Blasio during a press briefing.

“No New Yorker will go hungry,” he vowed. “Your city will provide.”

The new York City will provide 10 million meals this montyh, and about 15 million in coming May. However, the mayor did not gave any cost estimate over the charity program.

On April 24, The New York city Mayor also extends Ramadan mubarak to the Muslims brothers and sisters living in the city.
