TDN World Desk: Democratic politicians in US raised their concern over the treatment meted out by the Netanyahu government in Israel to its neighbouring state Palestine.
Israel launched its vaccination drive on December 19. But while vaccine shots are being given to its Jewish settlers, Israel did not offer 2.7 million Palestinina residents access to vaccination efforts which drew flak from various corners.
Through an Instagram post, Institution of Middle East Understanding (IMEU), politicians criticised Israel for not responding to the humanitarian need of providing vaccine to the Palestinians to protect against COVID-19, which has ripped across the world, causing a global pandemic.
Hitting out at Netanyahu government,
Newly elected Democratic Congressman Jamaal Bowman said,
“[Israeli Prime Minister] Netanyahu must ensure that both Israelis and Palestinians have access to the Covid vaccine. This cruelty is another reminder of why the occupation must end.”
Congressman Joaquin Castro said, as quoted by MEM, “I’m disappointed by [Israel’s] exclusion of Palestinians under Israeli occupation from these vaccination efforts, despite making Covid vaccines available to Israeli settlers in the West Bank.”
As per Associate Press report, Israel has decided on Sunday to give 5,000 doses of the coronavirus vaccine to the Palestinians to immunize front-line medical workers, Israeli Defense Minister Benny Gantz’s office announced so.
