TDN World Desk: Due to the ongoing a Karnataka farmer who could not able to sell his produce commited suicide in utter distress.
According to police report, the deceased farmer Gangadhar (60) hanged himself from a tree in his farm in Devarahalli in Shira Taluk of Tumakuru.
“Due to the lockdown, he had incurred huge loss as he was unable to sell his crop,” a police officer in Tavarekere was quoted by News 18.
the farmer had debt of Rs 4.4 lakh in banks and also to the moneylenders. Since the lock down was imposed he could not sell his grains.
He had yielded corps in the field. “He had hopes that he would overcome the financial problems by selling the crop but that did not happen,” the police added.
Poors are the worst affected community in the ongoing coronavirus lockdown.
Twitterati slammed the local MLA who rushed to the spot but allegedly took photo in front of the hanging body of the farmer.
Asked about his photo-op MLA Sathyanarayana said, “He (Gangadhar) is my voter and a dedicated social activist, so I had to go there. Why should I be blamed if someone takes photo?”
